The city itself is famous for being one of the smallest in Britain, with a population of around 16000 people, which doesn’t include the population of students, which also numbers at around 16000. So, you might nearly outnumber the locals, but don’t let that fool you into thinking you won’t come across any Welsh speakers. While English is the first language for the majority of Bangor, a rarity in the northern reaches of Wales, the native language is held in very high esteem and is used about the town incredibly often. Perhaps this is to keep some tradition in a city barraged by students. So, before you go to Bangor, touch up on your Welsh.
Student Life At Bangor
This should really read, where are the bars in Bangor? But, I’ll get to that in a moment. First off, Bangor is big on sports, so if you're a sporty person you are going to love it here. With two university run sports centers and so much rural space surrounding the city, students at Bangor will find it hard not to get into some sort of sport while studying. However, some of you will be turning your nose up at the thought of it, and for you I have another solution. The university boasts a wide variety of clubs such as writing, photography and yoga, perfect for those of you who don’t want to get sweaty before your night out. So, what is the nightlife like for a student? Well, the city itself is rife with pubs, bars, and, a rather impressive number considering the size of the city, four nightclubs. To make things even better, because it is such a small city, everything is within walking distance from the uni campus, meaning you don’t have to shell out for a cab ride back. Don’t feel like the walk though? Well, hang out at the universities own nightclub, Academi. Located on campus, the club will have enough cheesy dance nights and 80s throwbacks to keep you going back from fresher's week all the way to graduation. The city also has all the obligatory stuff you need to survive, you know like a good cinema, a bowling alley, laundry services and of-course, the lesser needed but always helpful, places to buy food.
