Coventry. The word conjurers up this idea of the landed gentry, a man sipping tea with a monocle, a grey haired and plump old lady carefully re-reading the complete works of Shakespeare. Not a place for students, surely? That is where you are wrong. Set in the heart of the second largest city in the west-midlands, Coventry University sits as the 12th biggest university in Britain, with a student population of over 30,000.
Student Life in Coventry
With such a large amount of students at the university, the SU has become pretty big to accommodate everyones needs. To that end, they have opened three on campus bars and a club that hosts a number of different themed nights throughout the year to keep you going back. However, should you get bored of the SU nights, wander into the town center and you’ll be greeted by numerous bars, pubs and clubs guaranteed to keep your nights entertaining from freshers week to graduation. If that still isn’t enough, a short train ride away is Birmingham, with enough nightclubs to satisfy even the biggest party animals thirst. If that STILL isn’t good enough, there is something seriously wrong with you. The university also has many sporting accolades and teams open to all students, including the likes of football and cricket, as well as water-sports thanks to many nearby lakes. They also have some more unusual societies such as the laser tag group and more refined ones such as the creative writing society. The city itself is also known for its literary, art and drama communities, so even if there isn’t a club at the university you like, you’re more than likely to find it in the city. Coventry also has numerous music venues that regularly play host to exciting new, as well as well known, artists. It is with great difficultly that you will find a lack of something to keep you busy.
