Plymouth is located in the South West of England, and houses two good universities. The more prestigious is the University of Plymouth, closely followed by the University of St Mark & St John. It’s estimated that around 35,000 students attend both universities, giving students a massive range of student accommodation to pick from. The city centre has a good range of supermarkets and boutique shops to visit, the main shopping centre is Drake Circus, where you can find all your expected high street brands such as Burton, Next and Apple. Plymouth is great during December, when it hosts its yearly Christmas market. The city has a huge amount of old school pubs, so you’ll never have a problem establishing yourself a good local with your new found buddies. As for the night life, Mouse Trap bar is popular with students, as it’s directly opposite the University of Plymouth. It offers a £1 a pint every Thursday, students are allowed to play free pool, and try your luck at karaoke. For a free day out, Plymouth has several beaches to choose from, Onset Beach being one of the favourite for students, as it holds plenty of events in the summer. Overall it’s a fairly safe city and has quite a low crime rate, if you get lost on your way, a local will undoubtedly help you get back on track.
