Swansea is the second largest city in Wales, and has two universities. The bigger and more prestigious is Swansea University holding around 19,000 students, and the smaller University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), with another 6,000 or so students. The city has a good student vibe with loads of student houses and flats in Swansea, on the market for students. The Swansea Student Union has its own assortment of pubs, bars and clubs just for students. They’re great for meeting new people and joining societies, especially if you’re moving here alone. Drinks are pretty cheap, they run quiz nights, organise football matches and everything else you could want from a student union. The Quadrant and the Morfa Shopping centres are your best options for shopping, convenience stores and supermarkets are located near enough to most local suburbs and universities. Being so close to the coast, you’ll have access to many local beaches including Oxwich Bay, which was voted the most beautiful beach by travel writers in 2007, and it’s just as good if not better now! The locals speak many dialects of Welsh, but pretty much everyone speaks English as well, so you won’t have to worry about learning a new language along with studying. The city itself is wonderful, it has a great student population, making Swansea student accommodation affordable, and easy to find. During term time there are plenty of things going on, it’s usually best to check in at the student unions to get the most accurate and up-to-date- information.
